Did you know that there is an intermediate step between an incident and a consultant? There’s someone in our office that focuses on preventive maintenance and is busy with handling incidents and tickets.
That someone would be me, Quinten! I work at IS4U operations and am here to tell you more about my job and life at IS4U.
Behind the ‘screens’ of operations

Currently, I work under IS4U operations. ‘Operations’ includes everything that comes in from clients that doesn’t directly have to go to a consultant but that can be fixed by me, for example some tickets. I focus on the maintenance of the log-in and log-out buttons of companies. What I really do in one sentence is vouching for the end user’s experience.
I have noticed over the past few years that my job is more than that. My job ranges from handling security incidents to re-laying our computer cables. I’d say it’s a pretty diverse set of tasks.
A typical day starts by waking up and getting ready at 7:30. Most of the time, I arrive at the office at 9 and I open my mailbox. Nine times out of ten, there are already some tickets waiting for me. After handling those, I get my fuel for the work day (a coffee). At 12, it’s time for lunch and to catch up with my colleagues. I work until 6 and finish up my day.

Of course, not every day is the same. There are days where everything is fine and clients don’t have any problems but there are days where there is a huge incident that impacts several customers and you don’t have any time to grab a coffee but hey, I like it like that! Expect the unexpected, right?
Beyond the internship
Unlike many of my colleagues, my job did not directly flow out of my internship. I was studying to become an electrician and I had courses that focused on ICT like Java and Python, Python kinda suited me! I did my internship at IdentIT and I actually liked it.
At the end of my internship, they told me that I did a good job but the other intern did an amazing job so he got hired as a consultant instead of me. They did like to work with me and offered me a job in operations and 2.5 years later, I’m still very happy with that opportunity! So if you want to work here, apply for an internship!
Teamspirit at ACEN

Working at ACEN means one thing: your colleagues got your back! I can say with confidence that I feel good at work, at ACEN. You can talk to your direct managers in a relaxed way, there’s a very good working environment and I have a great relationship with my fellow colleagues.
I just got back after a week of vacation and my coworker at the office told me first thing in the morning that he was glad I was back and it’s those small things that can really make a difference. I think we all share that feeling.
Back in the day, a big incident happened and we had a crisis. We worked together for 17 or 18 hours in different shifts and I must say, that really helps to connect with team members.
I feel supported on many levels. I have autism spectrum disorder and communication hasn’t always been my strength but I have noticed that with support from ACEN, I have evolved a lot. I have evolved so much that I can proudly say that today, I’m very good at communicating with clients and others.
I used to struggle with distinguishing important and less important things. One thing I learned in operations is: the more you communicate, even if it’s about small things, the more people are aware and the easier it is for them to understand what you’re doing.
“Actually, there is an environment within IS4U and the ACEN Group that you could experience in your own living room.”
– Quinten Van Ginderen, Security Consultant @ IS4U

Looking forward
Looking at the future, I hope that ACEN continues to grow. Growth means there’s room for further development and I hope that we can maybe build our own operations hub and offer operations activities to other companies. So let’s see what the future holds but I know it’s bright!
